Maharashtra

Maharashtra came into being due to the linguistic reorganisation of the States of India, effected on 1 May, 1960. Now it is the centre of financial as well as political activities. It has produced several great politicians who influenced the Indian politics greatly. Politically, this is a very important state due to large number of Parliamentary Constituencies (48).   Territorial region of the state is 3,07,713 sq km. Population of the state is 96,752,257. Principal language of the State is Marath.

Update : 10th Nov. 2010, Shri Prithviraj Chavan has resigned from the State Minsiter's position to take over the Chief Ministership of Maharashtra state. He will replace Mr. Shivraj Ashok Shankarrao Chavan who has resigned from the Chief Minister's position following onto corruption charges against him.
