Jharkhand

Jharkhand is the 28th State of the Indian Union and came in to existence on 15th Nov. 2000 through the Bihar reorganization act. This was an outcome of the ongoing effort from Jharkhand Mukti Morcha in the post-independence era. It has an area of 79,714 sq km and a population of 26,909,428 habitants. It has 14 parliamentary constituencies. Hindi is the principal language of the state.

  • 30-05-2010; Shibu Soren resigned from Chief Minister's post.
  • 01-06-2010: Cabinet approves President rule in Jharkahnd.
  • 11-09-2010: BJP MP Arjun Munda is sworn in as chief minister. Munda was administered oath by governor MOH Farook at a function at Raj Bhavan. JMM's Hemant Soren and All Jharkhand Students' Union president Sudesh Kumar Mahto were sworn in as cabinet ministers. They will be designated deputy CM.
  • 14-09-2010: Arjun Munda government in Jharkhand today won the trust vote in the 82-member Assembly by 15 votes. Forty five members voted in favour of the BJP-led coalition and 30 against.
